Trey Ryder
~ a critical review ~

Remarkably, I had ignored Trey Ryder's genius for a long time... until one day...

I was sitting in my drab little cubicle at the legal advertising agency I worked for, and I remember dreading the next cold call I had to make.  I hadn't made a sale all week, and I had spent all morning trying to get past legal secretaries.

Then, just as my hand was reaching for the telephone to make the zillionth call that day, the phone rang.  It was an attorney named Jonathan, from Atlanta, GA calling me back.  He wanted to know how I could get him the 3 to 4 extra clients per week that I had promised on his answering machine.

Jonathan was one of those marketing whizzes.  He tossed around the name Claude Hopkins (one of Jay Abraham's favorite mentors) and a seminar leader named Ken McCarthy, who had taught him how to make an information product out of his services.  I instantly perked up, because I knew that I was talking to one of those "marketing enthusiasts" whom I always learn so much from.

He then told me about his experiences with Trey Ryder.  This was the first time I had spoken to any lawyer about Trey Ryder, so I was curious and had a lot of questions.

Apparently, Trey Ryder had helped Jonathan design an entire marketing campaign for his bankruptcy practice.  And boy,  it was working very, very well.  I don't recall the exact words he used, but he indicated that he was very pleased with the results.

And, after asking other attorneys, I discovered that Trey Ryder was a "secret weapon" of sorts.

I had to check this Trey Ryder out.  After all, these weren't just some testimonials on a website (see www.treyryder.com), but these were actual, real people that I had initiated contact with.  And many attorneys were madly in love with what he had done for their law firm!

However, curiously enough, some lawyers hated him.  I couldn't figure out why, until I started asking them for samples of their marketing materials.  To my surprise, I received all kinds of kooky things... things that Trey hadn't written at all!

The Curious Little Secret...

I discovered that the attorneys who got terrible results were those attorneys who had only read the articles on Trey's website and tried to replicate his method on their own.

The attorneys who had actually hired Trey claimed phenomenal success!

You'd think that I'd learn something from speaking with all those attorneys.... but no, I didn't.  I tried to implement "Trey Ryder style" marketing myself, without actually hiring Trey.  I tried to "cheat" the system.

I even e-mailed Trey several times for free advice (I was like one of those leech clients who calls every attorney in the yellow pages for free advice).  I'm sure that I wore him down, but he was very nice to me and gave me all kinds of interesting advice that wasn't on his website or in his cassette tape programs (I had ordered a few from him to help me better understand his marketing strategies).

To my surprise, he gave incredible free advice.  Specific advice like:

  • Why I should mail my marketing materials in a special "green diamond" first-class envelope -- and where I could buy such envelopes cheaply.

  • How to combine blank 3" X 5" index cards with cheap "butterly clips" to make a fancy binding for my marketing materials... and create a "first-class" image.

  • Why I should charge money for presenting seminars -- even if those seminars are for the sole purpose of attracting new clients.

  • Why I should use double-sided sticky tape to attach my law firm's engraved envelopes to the outside of 9" X 12" catalog-sized envelopes... when I mail out "information packets."

As I kept learning more and more new tricks from Trey, I kept wondering what else Trey had left out of his website articles and his cassette tape programs.  It then occurred to me that these little details...

Make the Difference Between
PHENOMENAL SUCCESS...
and Uncertain Results

So, I strongly urge you to hire Trey if you have the money to do so.  Please don't be cheap like I was, and try to learn Trey's method on your own, because...

...although I'm sure that Trey would never say this... I believe that you cannot lose money if you hire him.  You can only make money.  But if you try his style of marketing on your own, your results will be uncertain.

I receive absolutely no compensation for recommending Trey Ryder.  (In fact, I doubt that he even remembers me.)  Quite frankly, I have been recommending him for years, simply because I know that his marketing method works.

In addition, Trey -- either intentionally, or unintentionally -- brings Jay Abraham's philosophies into practical application.  (And by now, I'm sure you all know how I feel about Jay Abraham!)

For example, in the Mr. X book, Jay Abraham says:

"Effective advertising does not have to be crass and commercial, but it must be used to get your name out to the public.  If your name is not familiar to people, they will not come to you.  Your fixed costs will literally eat up your business."

Jay then goes on to explain how to craft understated, "educational" marketing.  Sound familiar?  It's exactly the same type of approach that Trey espouses on his website, and it's the same modus operandi that I suggest.

If you want to "try out" Trey's method of marketing, I suggest that you get his cassette tape program How to Create a Powerful Marketing Message, because it includes actual sample documents written by Trey for his past clients... and you can model your own documents after them.  It costs $199.

Update:  Trey just e-mailed me, and wanted me to let you know that my information is outdated.  Here's the current info on this great marketing package, from Trey Ryder:

"The cassette tape program you recommend -- HOW TO CREATE A POWERFUL MARKETING MESSAGE -- is now also available on CDs.  Further, it comes with 3 booklets saved in .pdf files on the first CD: the Seminar Exhibits (63 pages!), Seminar Outline, and Seminar Handout.  The price of this program is only $249.  The other 3 programs are $199 each."

However, don't fool yourself -- if you have the money to hire Trey, do it.  Don't think about it -- just do it.

And, if you try to implement Trey's methods on your own... and you find that you don't achieve any results... as I always say: it's not the method, it's your implementation of the method.  Hire the expert.  Hire Trey.  You can only win if you do.
